FFNL EDITORIAL
A sensational Round 6 a fortnight ago was definitely headlined by the magnificent win by the Rivcoll Bushpigs. Against all odds they came away from Victoria Park 5 point winners in a match that can only be described, from the Bushpigs concern, as pure gold. It was their first win since August ’06 and could not have come at a better time. Well done Schultzy and all your charges. The CAK Demons continue on their winning way and they completely disposed of the Temora Kangaroos by a massive 128 points. The Marrar Bombers moved into second spot on the ladder after a hard fought 17 point win over the Northern Jets. All now is in readiness for what promises to be another great round of footy to be played today.
Langtry Oval, Marrar, is the venue of the clash between the home side, the Marrar Bombers, and the visiting Rivcoll Bushpigs. Buoyed by their magnificent win over TRYC a fortnight ago the Bushpigs will be approaching every game from here on in with an increased air of confidence and expectancy to do well. Steven Schultz could not have been happier with his teams performance and he rightly applauded them in the press after the game. They are starting to gel into a very competitive outfit now, although it has taken some weeks. With the monkey off their back now I’m tipping them be right in the fight to play finals this year. They were very well served last game by new recruits, Jack Lea, Glen Snaidero and Georgwe Johnstone as well as Mick Cattell and Rueben Smith. The Bombers had to pull out all stops in their match against the Jets and managed to come away from Ariah Park with a 17 point win. That win got them into 2nd spot on the ladder and they will be desperate to protect that position. Andrew Hill was in sensational form a fortnight ago if the Piggies allow him too he will take control of this match also. He was well supported by Shane McIntosh, Sam Turner and Andrew Michel. A winner is not certain here and I’m tipping a close encounter. I’m leaning towards the Bombers because of the home ground advantage and I think their key players will win it for them.
The next match for decision is at the Crossroads Oval where the CAK Demons are taking on the Northern Jets. The Demons, well what can said about them that already hasn’t. They were undefeated all last year and their record still remains intact thus far this year. To be realistic, I can’t really see them getting their colours lowered this season but everyone knows that there is no such thing as a sure thing in footy. Whilst Shane Lenon can remain very confident, and rightly so, he will be taking sides like the Jets with extreme caution and watching for complacency amongst his troops. Mark Sargent, Matthew Coady, Jpsh Meiselbach and Nathan Fuller have been starring. The Jets will be definite underdogs here and Josh Parmenter realises that he has a huge job in front of him. They just failed last match over the Bombers in which they only kicked 1 goal after quarter time. If he can get his side to play four quarter, constant pressure footy anything can happen. If they let the Demons get away to a good start it will be near impossible to peg them back. Gerard O’Brien, Len Haddrill, Jack Dixon and Rob Edis have been very serviceable. The Demons will continue on their winning way here.
The last game is scheduled for Victoria Park where we have TRYC Magpies and the Temora Kangaroos doing battle. The Pies were unceremoniously dumped on their backs last game by the Bushpigs and that would have sent shockwaves around the club. Still I said that week that whilst they have been winning they haven’t been doing so in a confident manner. So I think that that defeat will suddenly jolt them into reality instead of them just going through the motions each game. David Pieper would no doubt have read the riot act to them after that match but he must let them settle now and get on with playing footy. Jake Hindmarsh, Aiden Ridley, Todd Hannam and Michael Hoogvelt have been playing well. The Kangaroos were all at sea last week and were no match for the Demons. I think they are at the middle of the road at present and if they can play some good footy in the next few weeks they will be heading in the right direction. They certainly missed Dan Reid last game and hopefully they will have him back for this match. His guidance and direction was sorely missed against the Demons. Adam Reid, Leigh French, Chris Block and Jason Reid are playing well. I’m tipping the Magpies to bounce back here and be victorious but not before some stern opposition fro the Roos.
There we have it, a brief preview of what I’m predicting to happen in this week’s round of matches in the FFNL. All the very best to all participants, both football and netball for this week. Thought for the Week: Failure to prepare is preparing to fail.
