Our Telekom Cup 2009
WOMENS Pool A: Rennel Bellona 0 v. Guadalcanal 6 Far more experienced and fitter than their opponents, Guadalcanal took advantage of Rennell Bellona to give themselves a healthy buffer on top of Pool A. Rennell Bellona had little against their opponents and the 6 – 0 final score line provided some painful comfort as it could have been far worse had Guadalcanal made use of their every chance.

After putting behind a shaky start in the match Guadalcanal moved to be top dogs in all quarters of the match. After scoring their first goal in the 18th minute, through Betty Maenu’u, Guadalcanal refused to look back. more -->
WOMENS Pool A: Isabel 1 v. Honiara 0 Isabel were the underdogs in this encounter but the result spoke little of that discrepancy. The match was fairly evenly contested and both sides had good chances to score. The only difference laid in converting these opportunities into goals.

Isabel scored through Sally Saeni 10 minutes before half-time to take her side ahead. This score line remained until full time.

The win moves Isabel to second place in Pool A behind leaders Guadalcanal whom they drew with in their opening match. more -->
Pool B: Honiara 0 v. Isabel 0 One could be forgiven for thinking that Honiara would have an easy game against Isabel but the 0 – 0 score line at the end of the match summarised a completely different story.

Isabel lost to Rennell Bellona in their opening match and could not afford another loss. Honiara was much more superior and their array of DJ League players was going to be their major advantage. Isabel had only their determination and their faith to back them up.

The match opened to a disappointing start for Honiara who failed to register any convincing attacks on the Isabellians. They had more possession but their attempts at front failed to draw the best from the Isabel goalkeeper. more -->
Pool A: Malaita 4 v. Makira/Ulawa 1 Malaita fielded a full strength team to face Makira Ulawa who have a reputation as one of the toughest teams in recent Solomon Cup tournaments. For the Peter Konata coached side, this is their first game in the competition and they certainly would want to join the race for top 2 spots in what has been dubbed the ‘pool of death’.

Both teams were fully on edge in the early stages of the game and exchanged good runs against each other. Malaita had Batram Suri, Kidstone Billy and Alick Maemae up front and they kept the pressure high on the Makira/Ulawa defence. more -->
A:Temotu 4 v. Central 0 It was not going to be a good for any team that was going to take on Temotu Arrows after its opening loss to Guadalcanal on Saturday and today Central Shields found themselves in this unfortunate position. Reeling from their early loss, Temotu were in full force against the Central Islanders who also lost their opening match.

The Temotuans proved that they were still contenders with an early g more -->
POOL A: CHOISEUL 1 v. GUADALCANAL 1 Guadalcanal were on a high after a convincing 3 – 0 rout of 2005 finalists Temotu over the weekend. Already on top of Pool A they were looking to extend their dominance in the group. For Choiseul this was their first match of the 2009 Our Telekom Solomon Cup but and they had to prove something to their fans if they want their support them for their next matches. Leading Choiseul was veteran goalke more -->
POOL A: WESTERN 3 v. CENTRAL 1 Much was expected from the former finalists, Western Province, who travelled to Honiara with 22 province based players.

Central had the brightest of starts and they pieced together a convincing pattern against the Western side who struggled to combine where it mattered. The Western players were much faster while Central used time and space quite effectively for sudden burst at their opponents. more -->
MATCH N POOL B: ISABEL 1 v. RENNEL BELLONA 3 The 2 teams had met in a friendly a few weeks back and Rennell Bellona had shocked the Isabellians by beating them 2 – 1. This encounter, therefore, provided much opportunity for Isabel to set the record straight.

Things looked really bright for Isabel when they hit home early through Futsal international, Jenan Kapu, who hit home a thunderous volley from a corner kick by Holland Sikou. Isabel then looked like it was going to extend its advantage but Rennell Bellona had recovered from their early lapse in concentration and were tighter at the back. Eugene Tekobi was solid in defence and ensured that no attempt at goal was made by Isabel. more -->
