Volunteers

Volunteers are the backbone of a grassroots basketball community like ours. Poowong Basketball is very lucky to have many capable, hard-working and dedicated volunteers working on and off the floor every week. Whether it’s coaching, floor sweeping, team managing, first aid or taking up a role on a committee, there’s always something to do. If you would like to volunteer, get in touch with one of our committee members.

Coaching

Basketball throughout Australia relies on dedicated volunteers to teach people how to play the game and compete. We welcome people of all experiences to express interest in coaching our junior basketball teams, for more information on coaching head to our Get Involved - Coaching Information section.

Scoring

All families of registered players will be rostered to score a few games each season. For more information on scoring, head to our Get Involved - Scoring Information section.

Basketball For Everyone

Basketball can be exciting, engaging and rewarding and deliver many physical benefits. But it can also help participants to develop valuable life skills, such as cooperation, discipline, respect and tolerance, and how to compete and socialise with others.

Basketball is also a great way to promote social inclusion and cohesion. When groups of people are excluded from sport, it can have a negative impact on both the health of the individuals and their communities.

We are committed being an inclusive club.

Our basketball stadium has been the lifeblood of the Poowong community since it opened in 1975! The community worked very hard to get it by picking potatoes and running concerts to raise money.
