The Youth Olympic Qualifier began today in Port Vila in 29 degrees heat and with 75% humidity. Hockey5s is played in 3 periods of 12 minutes. Fiji started strongly and defended well in the first third and it took awhile for New Zealand to settle in to the requirements of this new game. It was the 6th minute that Bridget Kiddle scored the first goal field goal for New Zealand.

YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES QUALIFIER - DRAW FINALISED

The Oceania Youth Olympic Games Qualifier in Port Vila Vanuatu is now only 2 weeks away. The format is Hockey5s which is the new FIH smaller game. The game is played on a pitch that is 55 metres long and 41.70 metres wide. Goals can be scored from anywhere on the pitch so it should provide a fast moving spectacle with lots of goals!!

VANUATU PREPARES FOR YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES QUALIFIER

Vanuatu Hockey Federation has been working very hard to get prepared for the tournament that begins on Saturday 8 March. The nation is very aware that there is to be a hockey competition of significance in Port Vila and everyone is excited. Hockey5s is the new format to be used and this will be the first time that this competition has been used in any Oceania competition.
