Simply the best!

Southern Tasmania is the nation's best football factory a new study has found. A story in the Mercury 4/3/2013 highlights the fact that more top-flight footballers are produced here per capita than anywhere else in the country. A number of young men have spent their formative years with STJFL clubs and the AFL Tasmania Talent Programs before going on to be drafted. The list is impressive. Ian Callinan, Colin Garland, Jack Riewoldt, Mitch Robinson, Aaron Joseph, Jeremy Howe, Aaron Cornelius, Aaron Hall, Josh Green, Liam Jones, Ryan Harwood, Marcus Davies, Sam Darley, Andrew Phillips and Jake Gillbee are presently playing and a number are waiting in the wings - Henry Schade, Jimmy Webster, George Burbury and Sam Siggins.

Representative Football

U14 & U15 players can represent their TSL club zone in the Easter Development Series.  Players are selected for zones from residential addresses.  This competition is conducted by TSL clubs through their Development Officers.

U12, U13, U14 & U15 players can be selected for the STJFL BLUE Vs GOLD Development Series conducted during the June holidays.  STJFL clubs are asked to nominate players who are playing with their community club.  U14 & U15 Southern Representative Squads are selected primarily from this series.  These squads play against the North of the State in the September holidays.

In 2011 the STJFL selected an U16 Rep side to play against the NWJFL at Aurora Stadium as a curtain raiser to the Hawthorn game.  It is envisaged that a similar offering will be made in 2012 for this age group.
