Zone Development Manager(ZDM) Annie La Fleur has followed her recent visit to Vanuatu with a week in Honiara, capital of the Solomon Islands.

The Solomon Island Basketball Federation have quickly opened discussion with FIBA Oceania about the employment of a National Basketball Development Officer in the Solomon Islands and have nominated two of their coaches to come to Australia in November to take part on FIBA Oceania's Tournament Coaching Module, which will be delivered during the Pacific Youth Basketball Championships in Churchill.

The newly elected exective of the Solomon Islands Basketball Federation have wasted no time in establishing their priorities following their election last month. President Brian Pongatapu and his committee have agreed that getting competitions up and running in Honiara, the nation's capital, is the most urgent task. With the assistance of local Toyota distributor Ela Motors, they have done that.

The Solomon Islands Basketball Federation (SIBF) newly elected executives will organize a top 6 basketball competition for both the men's and women's open category. SIBF is keen on getting some competition time this year in preparation for next years major league and other competitions.

Host organisers have just completed the installation of the official competition basketball court ahead of the Youth Olympic Games that gets underway on 14th August in Singapore. This event marks the debut of FIBA 33, the official 3 on 3 version of basketball.

Oceania will be represented by Australia girls, Vanuatu girls and New Zealand men. Players are aged under 18 and coaches under 35.

The 2010 Solomon Games held in Auki ended successfully. The western mens team and Guadalcanal womens proved to be unbeatable claiming the 2010 Solomon Games Championship.

The Solomon Islands Basketball Federation Special AGM was held on Thursday 13th August at the Solomon Host Meeting Room, NPF Plaza. The meeting was held to report on the last year of federation activities, approve new membership applications and elect officers to the vacant positions of President and Vice-President........

Basketball Entertainment Group is formed with the aim of creating an atmosphere for development in basketball. Our plan currently is to create events, fast and exciting to capture and stimulate Basketball players to have the that urgency to be competitive, thus improving their skills and fitness and mainly their athletism.

So our first event which we have already hosted is the 3 on 3 basketball Knock out series 2009 which will run from 31st June 2009 through to December 2009. Other events which will be organized is a 3 point shootout, which will be organized in a date to be finalized.

Monday night saw a turn of events after the FIBA Oceania delegates presented their recommendations to the Solomon Islands basketball community. An election took place to get basketball playing in Honiara.

The 3 country "Women's Basketball" initiative funded by the Australian High Commission has had beneficial long term results in all 3 countries.

FIBA Oceania Secretary General, Steve Smith and Development Manager of Oceania, Regan Kama will be in the country for a week purposely to see what is needed in the local basketball federation to build the sport. Speaking at a press conference today, Mr. Smith said that their visit is to hold talks ............

Solomon Islands Mens National Basketball Coach Ryan Burns is currently in the Federated States of Micronesia on a 5 month visit to the country. He is helping their states Pohnpei, Kosrae, Chuuk and Yap further develop their basketball coaches, players, referees and administrators..........................

FIBA Oceania is delighted to continue it's support of basketball in the Solomon Islands with the donation of rubber basketballs for use in the SI Development program. Former president of the Federation, Lawrence Quan, assisted with transporting the balls from Ausralia to Solomons.

On Friday 1st February, the Solomon Islands Junior National Basketball team played a visiting US Navy team. The United States Navy Warship was on a 1 week stop over in Honiara and agreed to play a friendly basketball match.

The primary school basketball competition had halted its comp til early February 2008 to allow schools kids to go for their Christmas & New year holidays here in town and their respective provinces.

The 2007 Transworld Construction Basketball competition semi finals is set for Sunday 5th August 2007, and Grand finals on the 12th August 2007.

The Australian High Commissioners office had approved the Solomon Islands Womens Basketball on the ball and the move basketball project submitted by the FIBA Oceania office onbehalf of the Solomon Island Basketball Federation.

Eddie is currently in the country to assist SIBF basketball development program as part of FIBA Oceania basketball development plan to the Island country especially Solomon Island.
