Would you want Ben Cousins at your club next season?
Ben Cousins' 12-month suspension from AFL is coming to an end and if he gets approval from the AFL Commission next month he could be coming to your club...
Will you be cheering as Cousins runs on to the ground on the first day of the season wearing your club's colours?

If he goes to St Kilda, I'd be a very worried fan to see him hanging out with Michael Gardiner. Trouble waiting to happen if you ask me!

RE: Would you want Ben Cousins at your club next season?
There is a poetic irony in Ben Cousins becoming a Saint after living the life he’s led. He’s had his second, third, fourth and fifth chances and has let himself, his teammates, the club and the fans down time and time again. He hasn’t played for a year, he’s 30 years old and has a problem with drugs and alcohol, but if Cousins stays out of trouble, if he puts on best on ground performances every week and if St Kilda are near the top of the ladder, then the fans will get behind him. If, if, if...
RE: RE: Would you want Ben Cousins at your club next season?
The one major point I would make is this.. Ben had NEVER tested positive to drugs, whereas other players have..and guess what... they are STILL playing, although we don't know who they are..slightly hypocritical to say the least. He was charged with bringing the game into disrepute...didn't those players found to have used drugs do exactly the same ?? He was sacked by West Coast after being arrested for doing..........nothing !!! Laughable !
But to put things into perspective..He HAS admitted drug use, and I would love to give him the biggest kick up the backside. He has also given his all to combat his addiction. How many other addicts would do what he is doing...staying fit, working thru his problems, and showing a genuine desire to return to the game he has given so much to. We can continue to do what we are currently doing...kicking him when he is down...or do something more in line with the Aussie tradition..give him his LAST chance.

Yes - great post. I reckon you're on the money. Whilst Cousins let a few fans down; the fact that his life has been out of control and played out in such a public manner is a massive punishment in itself.
Perhaps he won't stay clean, perhaps he will - but with the scrutiny he'll be under, I'd also have him back at my club.

I'm quite sure that Ben would find the warmer climate in Queensland to his liking. He has done the wrong thing but has put his hand up and copped his penalty. He was one of the greats to watch at the peak of his powers and if he can get back somewhere close to that level he will give fans wonderful entertainment and his new club a genuine match winner.

My club would welcome Ben Cousins anytime. In that dingy smoky bar, just around behind the pokies. Nothin' like having Ben there to pull in a few more patrons.

Michael Voss up at the Lions sounds keen, but the AFL certainly has made life tough for Benny Boy. Sounds as is Ben will be spending more time giving urine samples than he will running around playing football.
RE: ... RE: Would you want Ben Cousins at your club next season?
Very strange, wouldn't you think..Adhere or go.. What rules do those players found to be using drugs have to adhere to..the same as Ben's ?...if not, why not ??? One bloke was found to be using illicit drugs and got 16 weeks. He didn't own up to using BEFORE he was caught. Ben owns up and was NEVER caught. Talk about double standards. If you test positive you are o.k..nothing more is said.. but hey, is it because he was a high profile player.
But as I have said before...Ben was an absolute idiot, and deserves a good kick in the backside.. but why have double standards ?????
RE: ... RE: Would you want Ben Cousins at your club next season?
Yep, good call. Also, there are currently six players in the AFL on two strikes for taking recreational drugs. One more strike and they will get the boot. I wonder if the AFL has drug testers following those six blokes around seven days a week?
RE: ... RE: Would you want Ben Cousins at your club next season?
Classic that Cousins had a FULL body wax recently and buzzed his hair - making it impossible to get a hair long enough for the particular drug test that was due last weekend. I'm not saying this means Ben is back on the drugs, but it was pretty stupid/provocative of him to do this knowing full well he had a test coming up. Nixon (or someone close to him) needs to manage him better.
I have no problem with the scrutiny around Cousins - and the imposed testing regime - but agree with other posters that the double standards at the moment (other players running around who have been actually caught twice) are ridiculous.
RE: Would you want Ben Cousins at your club next season?
NO WAY...i think he should not be allowed to play AFL just 12 months after his ban, and especially after all that he has done. he is going to ruin the game. he has already missed a hair sample request because his hair is too short. what will he get up to next???
RE: RE: Would you want Ben Cousins at your club next season?
i would have taken him but i don't think i would after the picture of him in todays Herald sun. How is that Orange Jacket he has on No way can somebody go out in public in that i thought he would have learnt after his Such Is Life tattoo. He is messed up that guy seriously
