Badminton Manawatu employs Development Officer
Badminton Manawatu announced the appointment of Tura Rata as Badminton Manawatu’s Development Officer this week. Tura has an extensive background in sports administration and has recently attended a level 1 coaching course. Tura will officially commence in his new role in January however he is already demonstrating his enthusiasm for the role.

Coaches attend Level 2 course
Badminton New Zealand held the first part of the Level 2 coaching course at the weekend. Thirteen participants mostly from the north island attended the two day course at Bartercard Badminton North Harbour Centre. Tony Mordaunt presented the course which covered areas like periodisation, tactics in 60 seconds break, coaching philosophies, advanced feeding, implementing routines, demonstrations and some technical principles. The second part of the Level 2 course will be held in March 2010.

Oceania Events Course
An events course will be held in conjunction with the "Festival of Badminton" being held in Invercargill in February which also includes a Players Training Camp, Thomas Uber Cup Oceania Qualifying, Oceania Team Championships, the Oceania Junior Championships and the Oceania Championships

New Zealand have finished 16th at the World Junior Championships in Malaysia after losing their two play-off matches to Vietnam and France 3-0

NZ Wins 5 Golds in Team Event at World Masters
Five New Zealand teams won gold in the team event at the World Masters Games being played in Sydney. Two teams won silver and four teams won bronze; a total of 11 teams were presented with medals at the badminton awards dinner last night at Olympic Park.
Neil Morey wins Kiwibadminton rebranding competition
Neil Morey from Brockville, Dunedin won the rebranding competition last week. Neils name along with 40+ other names were put into a hat and pulled out by Badminton NZ Adminstration Executive Bob Lindberg. The draw was overseen by NZ Golf Operations Manager Karen Collins.

Tam & Haliday win Cyprus International
Donna Haliday (Akld) and Henry Tam (Akld) New Zealands No.1 mixed pair won the Cyprus International at the weekend beating a pair ranked 53 in the world.

Auckland win NZ Division 3
Auckland were too good for Canterbury, winning 16-0 in the final of the New Zealand Division 3 inter-association competition.
Auckland are promoted to division 2 (Slazenger Cup)for the 2010 competition giving them two teams in division 1 and one in division 2.

Masters Players Heading to Sydney
Over 150 New Zealand badminton players are heading across the Tasman in the next few days to play in the World Masters Games in Sydney.
There are several organised groups travelling from New Zealand, the largest is organised by Kiwimasters Badminton,with 126 in their group

Snow stops players making it to NZ Championships
Four players from Hawkes Bay did not make it to the New Zealand Age Group (u17 & u15) Championships on time as their car became stuck in snow on the Napier Taupo Road on Sunday evening. Instead the players spent the night on a marae near Taupo; their vehicle, rackets and gear all left on the side of the road waiting for the snow to thaw.

Jessica Jonggowisastro Dominates NZ U19 Championships
Jessica Jonggowisastro showed she is all class by dominating the New Zealand under 19 Championships, winning the girls singles, girls doubles and mixed doubles as well as leading the North Harbour team to victory in the team event.
Luke Charlesworth put the Charlesworth name back on the boys singles cup, 36 years after his father won the same event

Whyte Trophy Team first to wear new Silver Fern

Australia were too good for New Zealand, dominating the annual Pac Pacific under 19 team series winning all three matches and the series 3-0
The team will now play the Australian Junior International and the Yonex Australian Open tournaments before returning home for the New Zealand Open next week.

New Zealand wins 4 of 5 titles at Noumea International
New Zealand won four of the five titles at the Noumea International played over the weekend. New Zealand can also lay claim to the fifth title as it was won by Deyanira Angula who is playing for Mexico but resides in and plays for Waikato.

Icy Conditions delay the start of the South Island Championships
The start of day three of the South Island under 17 & 15 Championships in Dunedin was delayed by an hour as teams were unable to get to the Angus Badminton Hall due to the icy conditions on the roads. With the temperature at 4 degrees in the hall it has been a cold start to the day for the youngsters
