Samoa wins Commonwealth Youth Games 2015
Samoa via the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee has secured the rights to host the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games.
The Commonwealth Games Federation’s 71 member nations and territories awarded the Games to Samoa at its recent General
Assembly held in The Gambia.
In announcing the decision, CGF President, Mike Fennell, said he was delighted to see the Youth Games heading to the small nation of around 180,000 people.
“It is an important part of our ethos that all member countries and territories have the opportunity of hosting events,” Mr Fennell said. “Not everyone can host the Commonwealth Games, but we firmly believe that smaller nations should look to host our Youth Games.”

Mose Faatamala: Samoa’s Paralympian for Beijing‘08

The 2008 Olympic Games may have been over for a few weeks now, but the venues were in full use as the 13th Paralympic Games were underway, September 6th -17th.
Mose Faatamala was Samoa’s only athlete to qualify for the 2008 Games during the Arafura Games in Darwin, Australia in 2007.

Meet your Athletes for the CYG 2008
The 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games will be held in Pune, India, from the 12th to 18th October 2008. Over 1,300 athletes and 350 officials from 71 countries will participate in these Games.
SASNOC has confirmed entries in four of the nine sports on offer with many young medalists entered from the 2007 South Pacific Games.

A busy day for Team Samoa

Today Rudolf Berking-Williams raced in Heat 3 of the K1 1000m Men's FlatWater Kayaking taking a place in the semifinals on Wednesday afternoon, the 20th of August.

At 5:30pm last night Samoan archer Mua'ausa Joseph WALTER competed against Juan Rene SERRANO of Mexico in the Individual Men's Recurve in the 1/32 Eliminations at the Olympic Green Archery Field.

Tavui is OK after KO
At just after 9pm tonight, out light heavy weight (81kg) Farani TAVUI had
his first fight against Boxing World Championship silver medallist (2005),
Marijo SIVOLIJA-JELICA of Croatia.
The result has not what we were hoping for as he lost in the third round by a knock out.

Oceania Welcome Ceremony
This morning from 11am - 1pm an Oceania Welcome Reception was planned to bring together the 15 island nations, and introduce each team announcing their flag bearer. Ele Opeloge was chosen to play this role for behalf of Samoa, much to the delight of our entire team.

Well, after an afternoon of training, familiarizing with the village, dinner and team meeting, Team Samoa retired early. Of course not before heading over to the Australian compound to watch the All Blacks vs Wallabies Tri Nations match with members from the NZ Olympic team.

Farani Preparing for 2008 Olympics in Hong Kong

Westpac First to Answer Call of 2008 Olympic Team
During the month of June, more than 170 local businesses and organisations in Samoa were sent personal invitations to enter a team in the Olympic Team Golf Tournament, and letters requesting any donations or prizes they may be able to offer for the hosting of the tournament.
This afternoon Westpac Samoa became the first business to answer the 2008 Olympic team’s call to support the athletes and officials who will travel to Beijing later this month for the Olympics.

Olympic Promotion for Apia Schools
As part of raising awareness in schools , we are presenting schools in the Apia region with information about the Olympics and the Olympic Movement.
As part of this promotion we are encouraging the schools to accept our offer to have a member of the 2008 Samoa Olympic Team to be a special guest at their school assembly in the first weeks of July, and to encourage their students to participate in the 2008 Olympic Day Run which will be held on Saturday 19th July.

A Gift from the Chinese Embassy
This week, SASNOC was gifted with a Mazda pickup from the Chinese Embassy for general office use.
President of SASNOC, Vaeolenofoafia Tapasu Leung Wai expressed his sincere gratitude towards the Embassy for their gift.
We are also still awaiting the arrival of the Daimler Chrysler vehicle as promised from the IOC (International Olympic Committees)

Samoa Archery gets a spot for Beijing
Samoa will be represented at the Olympic Games in Archery for the first time at the Beijing Olympics.
During the Continental Qualifier Tournament for Oceania held in New Zealand last week, Australia obtained 2 places for the Women's competition in Beijing and one place for the Men's competition, but the surprise came from Joseph Walter of Samoa who obtained the final spot!

Cricket, an Olympic Sport?
On Monday 10th November, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved the International Cricket Council's (ICC) application to become an IOC - recognised international federation. For the last six years the ICC have been working towards this goal after becoming a member of the General Associtaion of International Sports Federations (GAISF) in 2002.

Minogue appointed PGC Executive Director
SASNOC's SPG2007 Operations Advisor, Andrew Minogue, has been appointed the new Executive Director of the Pacific Games Council. Whilst Andrew will eventually move to New Caledonia to take up this role, the PGC have agreed for Andrew to remain at SASNOC until the middle of 2008 to continue working on the Post Games Report and to assist SASNOC's strategic planning in the aftermath of the Games.

Samoa Taekwondo invited to Beijing Qualifier
Samoa Taekwondo have been invited to send a team to compete in the 2007 World Taekwondo Qualification Tournament in Noumea, New Caledonia for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in China.
Two fighters have been selected to represent Samoa in this Tournament; KainoThompsen Lautusi & Tevaga Simon Peter Ahhim.

Five Athletes for the Bejing 2008 Wildcard
SASNOC sent an application to the Tripartite Commission for Invitation places for athletes in Badminton, Archery & Canoeing for the Beijing 2008 Olympics. The Tripartite Commission for the Olympic games is made up of members from the IOC, Association of National Olympic Committees and International Federation.
