The Mount Isa AFL

The Mount Isa Aussie Rules games will be played at "Legend Oval" our new multi purpose sports venue in Sports Parade. Games are played at 1.00pm & 3.00pm on Saturdays. We now have own home of AFL in Mount Isa so come down and watch a couple of great games.

In 2010 the league is introducing a points system for the players and putting more emphasis on the senior clubs mentoring the juniors and the schools. 2010 also has the Lake Nash / Alpurrurulam Young Guns team being able to come to Mount Isa and home on a bus. Previous they would all fit into a few troopy's and head 250 km's to play and then home again. The Alpurrurulam community will be working on the oval and thus each of the Mount Isa teams may play at least one game allowing the Alpurrurulam community to host and witness the boys playing. If the two teams from Lake Nash field in 2010 then each time they play each other they could feasibly play more games at home.

REC FOOTY is new for Aussie rules with girls / ladies & guys playing a social game; these games will be played at the Townies League Club on Ryan Rd. If your new to town what a better way to meet new friends.

We enjoy great support from the North West star in Previews & reviews. ABC North West radio with Saturday morning’s sports with Bruce Underwood, Mob FM with weekly footy reports, Southern Cross Broadcasting television & our Sponsors.

In 2008 and 2009 the Mount Isa AFL had Michael King as the AUSKICK / Junior development Officer to look after the kids, school footy, assist with the umpires & REC FOOTY. Michael won the John Gargill medal in 2008. For the remainder of the 2009 season and 2010 Kyle Juracic will be looking after the school, AUSKICK and developing AFL with more outback lesson booked in.

Our game day umpires are people from each of the clubs, we are always looking for help here so if you don't want to play, have a go as an umpire or assisting role. We have junior matches / training on Sunday mornings and the senior players rotate to set up / pack up the day for the kids along with assisting with the games.

The AUSKICK clinics will be held at St Josephs Catholic school in Happy Valley (Tigers), The Sunset State school ( Rovers ) in Sunset & the Barkly Highway State school in Soldiers Hill (Buffs ). The league is having a few more clinics at Lake Nash / Alpurrurulam also this year. Parents are always encouraged to join in with the Kids. Fees for AUSKICK at the schools will be $50?? And $10 extra allows your child to play on Sundays.

The Tigers train on Tony White oval, The Buffs at Townies league club & the Rovers at the Rugby union oval off Alma Street. The league will play an iter-league game v the Barkly league at "Legend Oval". The Rodeo weekend is a bye and we hope to have another float in the Mardi gras after winning best senior float in 2007. We have a League Best & Fairest dinner, to award the John Cargill medal, the Tony White medal for goal kicker, The Paul White medal for best a field in the grand final & acknowledge the support received for the season.

AFL Mount Isa & clubs are always looking for new members or sponsors. AFL Mount Isa will increase your profile on the media, community and in the sporting world. The Mount Isa AFL is working towards being loud, proud & visible in the community. So get amongst the fun in 2010, please make yourself known and enjoy Mount Isa and the Mount Isa AFL Competition.
