The U16s AFL Academy squad will commence their program with an induction evening at Kantillas Function Centre, TIO Stadium at 7:00pm on Wednesday the 22nd of April.
The squad of 39 players has been selected from all of the NTFL clubs as well as the Katherine region. Training will commence in early May and will continue until the National Championships in July. A High Performance training camp will be held at the AIS in Canberra in mid-June and will include a trial match against the NSW/ACT Rams. Following this a final squad of 25 will be selected to pull on the Thunder jumper for the U16 Championships in Western Sydney from the 4th to 11th of July.
NTIS AFL High Performance Coach, Brett Hand is excited with this years 16's Squad. There is some fantastic talent within this age group with the likes of Damian Williams, Jack McEwin, Michael Dunn & Shaun Edwards just to name a few. I am looking forward to working with the Academy group and ensuring that they make the most of their "natural talent".
Assisting Hand is a former Thunder U18's player & current Tiwi Bombers big man, Kevin Bruce along with former South Fremantle & St. Marys star, Karl Gunderson.
The Academy program will be mirrored in Central Australia with the Power Water Development Squad continuing to train up until the 16's Nationals.
