Barry Maister chairs OSEP Management Committee meeting ONOC Vice President, Barry Maister, was in Port Moresby to chair the final meeting of the year for the OSEP management committee.

Also present were Kylie Bates from ASC, Brian Minikin of ONOC, Trevor Birney of IEA TAFE PNG, Gill Gemming of OSFO and Secretary, Sainimili Talatoka who is the OSEP Coordinator. more -->
PNG Games Spectacular Opening The fourth PNG Games being hosted by the Naional Capital District opened in fine style with a spectacular opening ceremony fit for a full regional event. more -->
PNG Games to Open on Thursday 19th November The 4th PNG National Games will open in Port Moresby on Thursday the 19th November 2009.

Using the venue for the 1991 South Pacific Games, 23 sport competitions will be conducted over a 10 day period. more -->
Inaugural Naoero Games a Hit The inaugural Naoero Games were held from 7th - 14th November 2009 and featured opening and closing remarks from the Country's President, H.E the Hon. Marcus Stephen.

The Games were fully covered online and provided an excellent opportunity to train nOC Development Officer Dominic Cain in using the Web sites and the Databases for competition management. more -->
Oceania MOSO 1 final session in progress The marketing and events management modules is progressing well in Suva Fiji. Atma Maharaj, Robert Graham and Brian Minikin are facilitating the sessions.

The session is part of the Olympic Solidarity Managing Olympic Sport Organisations (MOSO) pilot project that began in Nov 2008. It is a one year competency based program. Other modules included managing strategically, managing finance, managing human resources and organising an olympic sport organisation. more -->

XIII Olympic Congress, Copenhagen The XIII Olympic Congress was held in Copenhagen from the 3rd to 5th of October. Over 1200 delegates from the stakeholders of the Olympic Movement attended the Congress with representatives from the IOC, International Federations, National Olympic Committees, Media and invited participants from the Olympic Congress. 13 of ONOC's 17 members attended the Congress as well as the 4 IOC members in the region- Kevan Gosper, Phil Coles, John Coates (AUS) and ONOC President Robin Mitchell. Two coaches from the region (Varanisese Maraiwai FIJ and Craig Hilliard were also at the Congress at the invitation of the IOC President.

Oceania Retains the Madella Award The prestigeous Madella Award for the best MEMOS Project for 2009 has been retained by Oceania when it was awarded to Brian Minikin for his project entitled a Question of Readiness.

Auvita Rapilla won the inaugural award last year and this the second ever to be awarded keeps it safe in Oceania for one more year. more -->

Apia Sport and Environment workshop A few months after the World Conference on Sport and Environment held in Vancouver, some National Olympic Committees of Oceania met last weekend in Apia (Samoa), to share knowledge and experience while analysing and identifying related measures/strategies about sustainable development. Organised jointly by the IOC, through its Sport and Environment Commission, and the Samoan NOC, this Continental Seminar saw the participation of delegates from 14 NOCs, welcomed by the Prime Minister of Samoa, Tuilaepa Lupesoliali Sailele Malielegaoi, NOC Samoa President, Vui Tapasu Leung Wai, and the Secretary General, Niko Palamo.

Olympic swimming squad splashdown in Liverpool Liverpool is welcoming the first wave of potential London 2012 athletes this week.

Swimmers from the countries of Fiji and Palau have made a 7,500 mile journey to use the city's Olympic-size 50m pool in Wavertree to prepare for the forthcoming World Championships in Rome next week. more -->
