Touch World Cup

Taren Point Touch Association will be playing host next Wednesday to visiting international teams playing warm up games in preparation for this month’s Touch Football World Cup.

The local Men’s Open team along with Eastern Suburbs will take on South Africa, Scotland and Ireland Men’s Open teams in games to be played at Gwawley Oval commencing at 7pm on Wednesday, 22 April.

“It is exciting to see our local Touch fraternity embracing our international visitors and helping them in their preparation for the eighth Federation of International Touch World Cup,” said NSW Touch Association General Manager, Dean Russell.

“It also offers local players the opportunity to play against internationals, and that is something many may not have the opportunity to do again,” he added.

President of the Taren Point Touch Association and also the NSW Touch Association Aileen May is excited by the prospect of the games.

“To have players from Africa and Europe come to Taren Point to play is fantastic and exciting for our local players. I am sure that we will be able to put on a good show for them in their lead up to the World Cup.”

Over 90 international teams will compete in the eighth FIT World Cup to be played in Coffs Harbour commencing Wednesday, 29 April with the finals being played on Sunday, 3 May.

If you would like to be part of this fun, healthy and socially acceptable sport of Touch Football you can do so by participating in the local Taren Point Touch competition.
