Sam is a former Sherwood junior player who is passionate about AFL & teaching young people who are interested in playing & learning AFL.

Our season is to commence on Friday 23rd February 2012 from 5.00pm-6.00pm  & will run each Friday until Late April 2013, We will again run a post Auskick season for returning players & new players commencing shortly afterwards as a modified session with timing to be announced.

 Welcome

On behalf of the Sherwood Australian Football Club and the management committee I would like to welcome all new and returning players and their families for another season of Fun, Family, and Fitness at the Sherwood Magpies Auskick Centre.

Our Club has continued to grow, and our junior footballers have met with many successes for more than 40 years, thanks mostly to the involvement and commitment of parents supporting these young athletes.  I hope that your continued support will be as rewarding for you as it has been for me.

Participation

Auskick is a sport designed for children aged five to eleven years.  They are encouraged to participate in all activitiesoffered by the centre and these activities are designed to develop eye hand coordination within a football context ie. Running, jumping, kicking, throwing etc.

This emphasis on full participation provides every opportunity for young athletes to develop balance, stamina, strength, coordination, and self control.  The Auskick program is not about who won or lost, it is about encouraging each and every child to improve their skills as an individual, and also to develop an understanding of what it is to be a contributing member of a team.

It is about having Fun with new, and old, friends.  Players are grouped in ages and many relationships are developed with others away from their regular circle of school friends.  It is also about the Family playing together and growing strong together.  The Coaches, Umpires, First Aiders, Ground Marshals, are all mums and dads just like you and I.  Many have no previous experience, but without your effort nothing happens.  You might consider gaining qualifications as an accredited coach, umpire, or first aid official.  Every little bit helps our children in their development.

Finally Auskick is about developing Fitness in a safe and healthy environment.  Football involves training sessions, warm up sessions, coaching, matches, and much encouragement and guidance from committed and caring parents.

I look forward to assisting you where I can to ensure that all Auskickers and their families enjoy the season ahead.

Notice Board - Sidebar

Auskick will stop for the school holidays and resume on April 22nd, 2012. Look forward to catching up then. Have a safe and enjoyable break.

The 2012 season is fast approaching and the sign on dates have just been announced.  The sign on dates for the Sherwood JAFC 2012 junior season are the 4th and 5th of February 2012.

Please feel free to come along and say hello on either day, the 2012 Auskick fee schedule has not yet been released by the AFLQ or AFL Brisbane Juniors, and at this stage it is not known which of those entities will be coordinating the Auskick program.  I would hope that that relevant information will have been diseminated to clubs prior to our sign on but there is no guarantee unfortunately.  I can tell you this, I would not expect our fee structure to change demonstrably from last year.

I am looking for someone to take over the coordination role next year so if you are interested in developing grassroots football, coaching junior football, and having a great time doing it, Auskick is for you.  This role is best suited to a parent with a participating child, and if coaching is what you are good at it provides an excellent education of what it is to coach junior football.

Next season I am taking on a different volunteer role within the club and unfortunately will not be able to continue with the Auskick program.  Over the past three years I have built a quality program and one that I hope will continue well into the future.  Also I have been able to build high quality relationships with the NAB, Melinda Rose, Dancing Bean Coffee, Greg and Cheryl, and Darren Colbourne Photography.  These organisations have been of great support and I have no doubt this will continue also.

So with that said lets bring on season 2012 and I hope to see you all fit and well at the sign on.
