more -->Goondiwindi Grand Final

3.04.12
Goondiwindi Ladies Touch Association held their grand final last Friday night (30/03/12) with MC Hammers defeating Schoolies 6 – 2. MC Hammers had too much class and experience for the younger Schoolies team who will be a serious premiership contender this time next year. Down 4 – 0 at half time, Schoolies rallied in the second half but gave away too much of a start and were unable to peg back the margin.
It was a good fast paced game in slippery conditions with sharp ball movement and some committed defence. The standard and skills of the Gundy comp is improving every year - so well done to the players and coaches and we hope to see a good number of you trialling for the country teams in Dalby on the 24th of June.

more -->2012 NTL Summary
12.03.12
The mighty SWQ Swans performed magnificently at the just completed National Touch League tournament held in Port Macquarie, with 4 of our 5 teams making it to the semi-final stage and 2 of them going on to contest the Grand Final. Our Open Women’s team were unbeaten leading into their Grand Final and this trend looked set to continue before Brisbane City Cobras scored during the 4 on 4 drop-off to take out the title 6 – 5. Our Women’s 35s also made the Grand Final but found the Central Queensland Bulls a shade too strong losing 9 – 5. A great effort by the girls and the coaching staff of both teams!
Our youthful Men’s 20s and not so youthful Men’s 45s did a tremendous job to make it to the semi-final, where both teams were beaten by the eventual winners, Sydney Scorpions. Well done boys! Whilst our Women’s 20s did not make the finals, they were very competitive in all games they contested. Given the fact that 10 of the 13 players were 15 and 16 year olds, their efforts were full of merit and there is no doubt they will be far better players for that experience.
Our referees were not to be outdone, with the following receiving upgrades at the tournament:
Anthony Mew Level 6
Aaron Searston Level 6
Matt Prendergast Level 5
Brad Smith was ranked # 4 referee at the tournament and was rewarded for his efforts with the Open Women's final, whilst Mark Kelly officiated in the Men's 20s final and Greg Taylor the Men's 55s final.
South West Queensland Touch Association wishes to thank our coaching staff, referees and players for the time and effort they put in prior to and during the event. We would also like to thank our physios (Casey and Dirk) and our massage therapist (Jess) for ensuring our players performed at their best throughout the tournament.

more -->Emilee Cherry - 2011 Darling Downs Senior Sports Star of the Year

6.02.12
Congratulations to Emilee Cherry on being named Darling Downs Senior Sports Star for 2011 at a function held in Toowoomba last Saturday night. Emilee received the award in recognition of her efforts last year with the World Cup winning Australian Open Women's team in Scotland and her successful foray into the international Rugby Union 'sevens' arena.
At only 19 years of age, Emilee already has a very impressive touch football record to her name, including:
- Queensland rep at school level from year 6 to year 12 inclusive
- Australian rep in the 18's division in 2009 (named players’ player and winning the Louise Winchester award)
- Captaining the Australian Women's 20s in 2011 (again being named players' player)
- Youngest player in the Australian Open Women's team in 2010 and 2011
Emilee is a valuable member of the SWQ Swans’ Open Women’s team who are currently preparing for the National Touch League tournament in Port Macquarie (March).
