League Women –Tracy Village Jets v Eagles

Tracy Village Jets won their second game of the season as they clamped down on the Eagles for a decisive 67-42 win. The Eagles paid the price for a sluggish second quarter when the Bombers swept past them during a 17-8 run that gave them a 33-19 half time lead. A 12 point second half from Jet Kylie Duggan helped to put the game out of reach for the Eagles despite a strong third quarter fight back that saw the birds claw their way back into the game to trail by 10 with one quarter to go. Duggan ended up with a game high 17 and she had plenty of support from Georgii Howlett (16) and Sam Rioli (12). Leading the way for the Eagles was Trish Graham with 16 and Michelle Friel with 9.

Ansett v Lightning

Victoria Uhlig and Olivia Birkett combined for 20 points to lead Ansett to a 46-37 win against the tenacious Lightning. The Blues had to fight from behind as Lightning charged out to a 11-8 first quarter lead after a barrage of three pointers from Kelli Sealy and Sarah Carbone. Ansett then wrestled the lead away from Lightning in the second quarter with a 15-7 run that put them up 23-18 at the main break. In a see-sawing battle Lightning stormed back in the third quarter to close the gap to just two points at 33-31 in Ansett’s favour. The Blues took charge in the last stanza to close out the game with a 13-6 run led by Kia Bond who hit all 7 of her points during the run. Sealy finished up as top scorer for the game with 14.

Warriors v Uni Rebels

With only five players suiting up for the game the Uni Rebels definitely had a challenge ahead of them, but they responded with a easy 60-26 win over the struggling Warriors who are in need of a bona fide scorer. Jaylene Bonson (25) and Tamara Sheppard (24) totaled 49 points between them as they scored seemingly at will against the porous Warrior defense. The game was well and truly over at half time with the Rebels leading 34-16, but they kept on pushing to claim their second win of the season. Nyssa Curwen was best for the Warriors with 8.

Ladder:                               Uni Rebels & Tracy Village Jets 2-0, Eagles & Ansett 1-1, Lightning & Warriors 0-2

League MEN –Ansett v Warriors

Ansett made up for their opening round loss by swamping the Warriors 111-46. Three players hit +20 points for the game as the Blues turned on the after burners in the second quarter after trailing by 18-19 at the end of one quarter of play. Josh Potter and Ben Muvirimi got the Warriors off to a quick start for the first quarter lead, but the Maroons fell away sharply after that. Stung into action by the Warriors charge the Blues unleashed an offensive that put the game pretty much on ice before half time. Ansett hit 36 points to the Warriors 11 in the second quarter onslaught that gave the Blues a 54-30 half time lead and they didn’t let up in the second half…outscoring the Warriors by a whopping 57-16. Jay Johnson led the charge with a team and game high 23 followed by Matt Hunt with 22, Ross Vasic 21 and Jarrod Sheppard 14. Potter closed out the game with 14 and Muvirimi 10.

Tracy Village Jets v Lightning

Young Brad East hit a career high 20 as he led the Tracy Village Jets to a 97-48 win against Lightning. Six players hit double figures for the Bombers with Sam White & Jett Sukcharoen the best of the rest with 15 each. The writing was on the wall after one quarter of play as the Bombers ran off 28-8 points for a commanding lead and never looked back, giving all their bench players plenty of court time. The undermanned Lightning struggled throughout the game, but Christian Williams and Jesse Belle never let up in attack finishing with 20 and 12 points.

Eagles v Uni Rebels

Uni Rebels pre-advised their forfeit to the Eagles due to lack of players.
