League Men – Palmerston v Eagles

The minor premier Eagles soared over Palmerston 86-72 to head into the bye week with a confidence building win. In the minds of the Eagles it was a ‘must win’ and they came through with flying colours. Guard Jarrod Sheppard (17.2ppg) hit five treys in his team high 23 for the Birds…he hit the first eight points of the game (11 for the quarter) to send the Birds off on a 30-16 first quarter run. The Power scrambled back in the second quarter behind star guard Jesse Bell (22 @ 21ppg) and big man Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson (26 @ 18.7ppg) who hit all but four of the teams points during a 23-22 run that had them trailing 52-39 at the half time break. Eagle Buster Perkins (16.5ppg) stepped forward after the break to light up the scoreboard hitting 11 of his 19 in the term while the ever steady Louis Ilton (21 @ 18.7ppg) dropped in 7 during a 22-17 run that put more pressure on the Power to score. Palmerston tried to rally, but the 18 point margin at the start of the last quarter proved to be too much of an obstacle to overcome despite winning the quarter 16-12. Braden Robertson also hit double figures for the Power with 13. The Eagles now have a two week break before the semi-finals begin on the 29th of November and their opponent will be one of three teams depending on the results next Friday.

Tracy Village Jets v Uni Rebels

The Tracy Village Jets got a ‘get outta jail’ pass with a narrow 81-78 win against the Uni Rebels who looked to have the goods on the Bombers early in the game, but let it slip away in the last quarter. The Rebels charged out of the blocks with a 24-13 first quarter run that took the Bombers by surprise, but they (Jets) wrestled the momentum away from the Rebels in the second quarter during a 24-18 run that left them five points adrift at the break 42-37. Only two points separated the two sides in the third quarter as they battled for that shift in the balance of the game. It came down to the last quarter with Bomber Phil Collins (10.3ppg) and Rebel Jamie Hamill (6.4ppg) going head to head. Collins hit 10 of his team high 21 (including the last basket to give the Jets the win) while veteran Hamill nailed back to back treys and a pair of free throws to keep the Rebels in the hunt early in the quarter, but it wasn’t to be for the disappointed Rebels who will miss the Championship season playoffs for the first time since 2008. Collins had support from Alex Weetra 18, Michael MacLean & Christopher Amitrano 12 each. Hamill, Matt Fagg & Jermaine Lattimore all hit 18 with Matt Van Pelt adding 15.

Lightning v Razzle

Lightning set up their fifth win of the season with 40-30 first half to outlast the Razzle 78-68. Neither side could outgun the other in the second half as they both tallied 38 points! Tom Godwin played his best offensive game of the season, leading the Lightning with 22 points with back up from Lemuel Jones 14, Cameron Bailey 12, Christian Williams 13 and Joe Khun 10. The green and gold were led by newcomer Josh King who hit 21 with the team’s second highest scorer Robert Oliver (14.2ppg) nailing 18, James Panton 13 and William McClay 12.

Ladder:                                           Eagles 15-3, Palmerston, Ansett & Tracy Village Jets 11-6, Uni Rebels 7-10, Lightning 5-12 & Razzle 0-17

Next Game Nov. 22nd Round 21:     Tracy Village Jets v Ansett 6:15pm, Lightning v Uni Rebels 7:45pm & Palmerston v Razzle 9:15pm. Bye-Eagles
