League Women –Tracy Village Jets v Eagles

The Tracy Village Jets hit triple digits for the fourth time this season with a dominating 100-48 win against the Eagles. Matching up against each other on consecutive nights was not a scenario the Eagles would have asked for, but it was the luck of the draw and the end result was the same as it was on Friday night. Top scoring for the Jets this time was court captain Sam Rioli (15.5ppg) who hit a game high 26 followed by 23 from Abby Cubillo (26.7ppg) and 21 from Kylie Duggan (16.5ppg). The writing was on the wall for the Birds after another poor start when they fell behind 23-5 after a quarter of play. Kimberly Brown (10ppg) topped the scoring for the Eagles with 19 and Faye Armstrong put up 10. The Jets win streak continues. This was the 14th win in a row.

Lightning v Ansett

Ansett flew past the Lightning 56-40 claiming a little bit of revenge after Friday night’s one point loss to them. Elizabeth Paice from Ansett lifted her offensive game to pump in a season high 19 points to lead the Blues to the victory. Paice (7ppg) had help from Bella Politis who also hit double figures with 13 and Clancy Dorman who hit 9. Lightning bolted out into the lead with a 13-10 first quarter lead, but the wheels fell off in the second quarter as the Blues held them to just 3 points in the quarter while running off 11 of their own for a 21-16 half time lead. The Blues maintained the momentum throughout the second half, outscoring the Lightning 35-24 for the win. Yasmin DeCurtins (5.7ppg) led the Lightning with 13 points while Kelly Doherty added 10.

League Men – Eagles v Ansett

The Eagles pulled off a minor upset when they knocked off Ansett 85-75. The Birds took flight in the first quarter with a 26-17 run spearheaded by Reece Turner (19.5ppg) who hit 13 of his 25pts. The win was especially sweet for the Eagles as they had lost to the Blues last week by just four points. Turner had plenty of scoring support from Chris Hart (22ppg) who top scored for the game with 36 and James Silvie (24ppg) who had 16. The Eagles had built up a 44-32 half time lead they had to defend throughout the second half as the Blues fought back through Donte Nicholas, Daniel Florance and Tom Hunt trying to breech the gap. The win has given the Eagles a two game break over Palmerston as the Birds now hold fourth place on the ladder. Nicholas (33.1ppg) finished up with 25pts and Florance 21.

Uni Rebels v Palmerston Power

League leaders, Uni Rebels, knocked down 13 three pointers in their 96-77 win over the Palmerston Power. The Rebels scrapped to a narrow 24-22 first quarter lead behind the shooting of John King (28.7ppg) who hit 10 of his 26 points in the term. The lead extended out to 46-34 at the major break. The Power tried in vain to close the gap, but the Rebels had an answer for every challenge. Court captain Timmy Duggan (13.4ppg) hit a team high 23 for the Power with Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson adding 14, Aaron Simpson 13 and Brad Jachmann 12.
