League Men – Tracy Village Jets v Eagles
An anti-climactic finish to the minor rounds of the DBA Championship Season was witnessed by some die-hard Eagle and Tracy Village Jets fans on Saturday night when the Birds edged out the Bombers by one point 92-91 in a make-up game from Round 8. The Eagles led for most of the game, but found themselves trailing by one point after a basket by Liam MacLachlan at 90-89 with only 9 seconds remaining in the game. The Birds called an immediate time out and when play resumed MacLachlan was fouled on the in-bounds play and sent to the charity stripe for two free throws which would have put more pressure on the Eagles, however he missed them both. On the second missed free throw Eagle Chris Hart gathered in the rebound and tore off down court in a desperate attempt to regain the lead for the Eagles before time expired. Hart weaved his way through a number of Jets before he put up a Hail Mary shot from inside the keyway that banked in off the glass for the winner. The game wasn’t going to have any effect on the positions of either side in the playoffs, but true to a rivalry that goes back years both teams played with the intensity that has always been shown between them. Eagle James Silvie took out game scoring honours with 35, Hart finished with 25 & Reece Turner had 22. Alex Weetra led the Bombers with 21 MacLachlan hit 19, Darrin Weetra 17, Michael MacLean 12 and Sam White 10. The Jets now meet Ansett in the knock-out game in next Friday night’s semi-finals and the Eagles take on the Uni Rebels to see who makes it into the Grand Final.

Next Friday Semi-finals: Eagles v Uni Rebels 6:15pm, Ansett v Tracy Village Jets 7:45pm
