League Women Thursday – Razzle v Tracy Village Jets

Danielle Totham hit a season high 22 points to help lead the Tracy Village Jets to an easy 89-46 win over the Razzle. The Jets lifted off in the first quarter outscoring the green and gold 25-8 to take a firm grip on the game. Totham hit 5 of her points in the first half, but took wing in the second half scoring 17 points with help from Delsey Ah Wang and Erin Geer. The score at half time was 38-25 in favour of the Jets and after the break they extended that out to 60-37 at three quarter time before blowing the Razzle away in the last quarter with a 29-9 run. Geer finished up with 18, Ah Wang 16 and Jemma Iacono also hit double figures with 10. Jessica Osbourne top scored for the Razzle with 14 and Lailani Triffit added 10. Note: the Jets hit 20pts from the free throw line.

Uni Rebels v Ansett

Ambah Kowcun led the Uni Rebels to a 57-44 victory over Ansett with a season high 22 points. The Rebels led by just 3 points after one quarter of play before Kowcun ignited a 23-14 run in the second quarter by dropping consecutive treys to open the period. The Blues fell further behind in the third quarter to trail by 18 heading into the last quarter. Kowcun had support from Edith Boundry who also hit double figures with 14 while Isabella Politis led the Blues with 17 (including 5 treys) and Elizabeth Paice had 10.

Eagles v Lightning

Michelle Friel knocked down a team and season high 26 points to lead the Eagles to a 77-44 win against the Lightning. The Lightning put up stiff resistance in the first half, but failed to carry it through in the second half. Lightning was ahead on points 30-26 at halftime thanks to the good shooting from Kira Pendlebury and Chelsea Hambour, but after the break the wheels fell of and the Birds struck back through Trish Graham, Friel and Lillian Williams who combined for 42 second half points to just 14 for the Lightning. Ten of Friel’s points came from the charity stripe. Williams ended up with 20 and Graham hit 18. Pendlebury led the Lightning with 13. Graham’s points took her to a career total of 6011…the only woman to break the 6000 mark. Only five men have hit that milestone.

League Men Thursday – Uni Rebels v Eagles

The Uni Rebels held off a fast finishing Eagle outfit to post an 82-74 win to remain undefeated so far in the Challenge Season. Four Rebels hit double figures to secure the victory. Jake Kirby & Brad Jachmann hit 17 each, with Tim Morris firing in 15 and newcomer Michael Opara adding 13. Only one point separated the teams after a quarter of play with the Rebels leading 15-14. A second quarter run of 24-16 led by Morris and Kirby gave the Rebels a 39-30 half time lead and they managed to stave off all Eagle challenges for the rest of the game to keep their unblemished record intact. Kirby hit 5 treys in his total. A lot of fouls and a lot of free throws by both sides. The Rebels did get a better percentage from outside the arc though, hitting 8 to the Eagles 4. Chris Hart led the Birds with 21, Reece Turner nailed 17 and Dirk Steenbergen had 10.

Tracy Village Jets v Lightning

Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson hit a game high 24 points for the Lightning to spearhead an 82-73 win over the Tracy Village Jets. The win leaves the Lightning undefeated so far this season at 3-0, tied with the Uni Rebels. The Rebels didn’t give the Jets much chance to settle into the game as they ran off 24 points to just 15 in the first quarter. The run was sparked by 10pts from Tom Godwin. By halftime the lead was out to 41-28. After the break the Bombers lifted behind captain Michael MacLean and Travis Ellis who led the Bombers on a 25-18 run to pull the score back to 59-53 with a quarter to go. Lightning won the shootout in the last quarter 23-20 to win the game. Three others besides Hohipa-Wilson to hit double figures: Godwin had 16, Cameron Bailey 14 and Craig Martin 13. Ellis led the Jets with 21, MacLean had 18 and Jake Geer 11.

Ansett v Razzle

Ansett held the Razzle to just 14 first half points as the Blues powered away to a 63-45 victory for their second consecutive win in the Challenge Season competition. Matteo Rowse and Jake Feeney were the main scorers for the Blues once again with Rowse leading the way with 17 and Feeney adding 12. William McClay hit a team high 18 for the green and gold with Stuart Peace on 11.
