Tracy Village Jets v Razzle

Tracy Village ran their Challenge Season unbeaten streak out to 11 with an emphatic 78-45 win over the Razzle on Saturday night. Player/Coach Sam Rioli led the Jets with a game high 23 points followed by Tikesa Docherty-Cole with 16, Danielle Totham 15 and Delsey Ah Wang 13. Razzle managed to stay with the Jets in the first quarter, only trailing by 3pts at 15-12, but slipped away in the second quarter as the Bombers zoomed off on a 22-10 run for a big 37-22 half time lead. The second half was much the same with the Bombers outscoring the green and gold 41-23. Lailani Triffitt hit a team high 14 for the Razzle with her sister Laura adding 10. The Jets are now on a 16 game winning streak stretching back into last year’s Championship Season.

Ansett v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels had a battle on their hands against Ansett, but kept their cool to win a close one 46-40. The Rebels charged out to what looked like a handy half time lead of 22-13 and seemed to have the momentum, but after the break the Blues flew back into contention with a serious challenge. The fourth quarter proved pivitol for the Rebels as they managed to hang against the fast closing Blues who outscored the Rebels 16-12, falling just short. Edith Boundry & Danielle Ponter led the Rebels for the second game in a row with 11 each. Tamiyah Perkins hit a team high 14 for the Blues.

League Men – Lightning v Tracy Village Jets

Travis Ellis helped lift the Tracy Village Jets to a 70-63 victory over the first placed Lightning by hitting a game high 23 points. The points he scored pushed him over 9000 career points, the first player in the DBA to do so and he has done it in 15 years of court time. The win by the Jets was also their sixth in a row leaving them just one game behind the ladder leaders Rebels & Lightning who both lost their games. Ellis had help from court captain Michael MacLean 12 and Jayden Adams 15. The game was close all the way with the Bombers hanging on to a slim lead throughout despite the pressure exerted by the Lightning as they tried to find a way to overcome the Bomber lead. Craig Martin led the Lightning with 20, Dylan De Santis had 13 and Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson 11. Ellis is averaging 21.61ppg for his career.

Eagles v Uni Rebels

The Eagles handed the Uni Rebels their third loss in succession with a 92-59 thumping. Chris Hart didn’t face much opposition in waltzing his way to 39 points, a DBA season high in men’s competition. Hart hit the first 11 points for the Birds as they flapped their way to a 27-8 first quarter lead. Deola Folarin was firing away at the hoop as well in support of Hart. Folarin hit 27 points most of them in the first half as the Birds built up a 43-23 lead. The Rebels made a bit of a run in the last quarter, but it was too little too late. Brad Jachmann hit 19 for the Rebels followed by Tyler Jefferson 16 and Dominik Stopyra 14.

Razzle v Ansett

Razzle knocked off Ansett for the second time in two weeks with an 83-50 whacking that may end up presenting the Blues with the ‘wooden spoon’ for the season. The last meeting between the two side produced an almost identical score line. David Carroll carried on with his fine form over the last few weeks to top score for the game with 26 while Stuart Peace & Rob Oliver hit 14 each and Nathan Radonich 10. The green and gold did it easy again by storming out to a 41-22 half time lead and continuing on in the same vein for the rest of the game. Matt Flanegan hit 20 for the losers with team mate Lewis Carey hitting a season high 19.

Ladder:                                                             Lightning & UniRebels 8-3, Tracy Village Jets 7-4, Eagles 6-5, Razzle & Ansett 2-9

Next Week Round 10:            Thursday: Tracy Village Jets v Razzle 7:45pm. Friday: Lightning v Uni Rebels 6:15pm & Eagles v Ansett 7:45pm
