League Women – Thursday – Razzle v Eagles

The Eagle women finished off the season with a resounding 61-39 win over the Razzle on Thursday night. The Razzle got the better of the Birds in the first quarter as they took an 11-9 lead, but the Birds regrouped in the second quarter and blew away the Green & Gold with a 27-8 run highlighted by a five minute segment when they outscored the Razzle 13 points to nil. The Eagles added 10 points to their half time lead to go ahead 50-23 at the end of the third quarter. The Razzle lifted in the fourth with a 16-11 run, but never looked a threat to overhaul the Eagle lead. Guard Michelle Friel (8.3ppg) led the Eagles with 19, backed up by Alysha-Marie Williams (6ppg) on 12. Erin Boyd (13.7ppg) hit double figures for the Razzle with 11.

Uni Rebels v Palmerston Power

Palmerston Power claimed the points against the Uni Rebels in overtime 59-56. The Power looked like running away with the game four minutes into the second quarter as they already had a 32-20 lead, but a couple of treys from Rebel Jaylene Boundry cut the margin and by half time the Rebels only trailed by 1. The second half was a real see-saw affair and ended up in a 51 all knot after Rebel veteran Chantelle Lee hit a free throw with just 12 seconds left in regulation. Brittany Ward (14ppg) from the Power hit a trey with 2:28 left in OT for a 55-53 lead and they clung to that for the remainder of the game.
