During the Macau event, 8 national teams participated, which gave the FIBA visitors a chance to see rules in action, and to make recommendations for future competition format and regulations.

FIBA Oceania Secretary General Steve Smith believes the introduction of youth-based 3on3 events is a most exciting opportunity for FIBA.  "It is a chance for us to realign ourselves with the youth market, who are increasingly moving away from traditional events.  At every level, from domestic to international, 3on3 will reinvigorate a section of our community and provide them with a basketball product that suits their age and lifestyle.  It will be exciting times for us all, building this new product for our membership."
