Honours come early in the year for Suns referee

Referee Action Day a huge success:

Bruce Keirs, Referee Development Manager for Basketball Australia, and John Rearden, former NBL referee were in Coffs Harbour last Saturday to conduct a Referee Action Day.  Conducted at the new court at Southern Cross University, over 30 referees were in attendance.

The day commenced with the FIBA Referee Fitness test, which is a compulsory test for all referees wanting to officiate at junior and senior representative level.  Following the test, the referees underwent a series of on-court sessions, discussions on game situations, game management, rule knowledge and judiciary procedures.  The day finished with all referees undertaking the theory examination.

At the end of the day, Keirs was very complementary of the participants.  “The referees have a very sound knowledge of the rules, and they were keen to be involved in discussion.  Obviously the referees program in Coffs Harbour is in very good shape and it is producing some excellent referees.”
