Under 14 boys reach grand final at The Entrance Carnival

In the round games, the Suns easily disposed of the Lakers team, 80 points to 6.  Cessnock provided little resistance as the Coffs side fine tuned several drills and defeated the under strength Cessnock side by 98 points.  A late game Saturday afternoon met with success against the persistent Newcastle side who lacked the height of the Suns power forwards. The fast breaking of the Suns guard ensured plenty of shooting opportunities, resulting in  Coffs Harbour def Newcastle 62 points to 22.

Sunday morning Coffs played an impressive Tamworth side. Tamworth suffered early foul trouble which enabled Coffs to gain the upper hand. The game was much faster than the previous games, but Coffs was well prepared, defeating Tamworth 42 to 29.  In the next game, the Suns met Shoalhaven who started well against the undefeated Coffs boys but experience, speed and height proved too much for the boys from the south, with Coffs taking a 48 to 29 win.

Coffs was into the final against Tamworth, and gained an early lead with the forwards hitting the boards and the guards trying every trick in the book to maintain the lead. At the last quarter the Coffs team was ahead by 8 points but fatigue started to set in and Tamworth scored several quick baskets. With two minutes to go Tamworth levelled the score. The game went right to the wire with Tamworth defeating Coffs 43 to 41. The boys played very well all weekend and should feel proud of making the final. Coffs travel to Tamworth at the end of March for the opening round of the NJL. The rematch should prove equally as exciting.
