Great Murray Jamboree - players return

The 2010 Jamboree held in Albury proved a very positive and rewarding experience for all 8 Coffs Harbour Basketball players who attended. Brianna Markham & Troy Wallekers suited up for the Cockatoos, Hannah Sambrook the Emus, Rachel McGinniskin the Goannas, Emily Cramton & Patrick O’Gorman the Kangaroos, Alexander Campbell & Danielle McMahon for the Wallabies.

Although this can be a little daunting at first all players soon made friends within their team and other participants. Across the Jamboree they played 5 games, attended both team and joint skills sessions run by Director’s of Coaching for VIC & NSW, attended a disco night, skit night, free time at indoor swim centre & Pizza night, opening & closing ceremony. To say the kids were exhausted by the end of the Jamboree is an understatement. There is no emphasis placed at the Jamboree on who won or lost it was about development and participation.

The parents also attended a parent dinner with Andrea Walsh, Director of coaching for VIC being the guest speaker. Andrea gave a speech which all players and parents of any sport should hear it was the highlight of the night.

Overall it was a very enjoyable weekend for the players who played great basketball, learnt new skills but most of all made new friendships within the basketball community that will last a lifetime.
