CAMERA HOUSE SUCCESS

The first game of the season saw the Camera House Men's State League team take success 86 to 72, against an older and rejuvenated Lake Macquarie Lightning.

The Suns were firing with Nathan Ainsworth scoring 8 of the team's first 10 points. Lightning's physical game forced the Suns out of their offence.

Lightning controlled the boards. They turned rebounds into fast break points and took first quarter lead 21 to 16.

With the help of Lightning heavily guarding Sean Murphy, Mitch Cole dominated in the second quarter, sneaking through the radar and scoring 14 points.

The half ended with Murphy hitting a half way shot at the buzzer to come within 3 points of the Lightning.

Dirk Miller and Ainsworth threw out great defence and control in the 3rd allowing Murphy to control the boards and make quick out-let passes.

The Suns extended defence held the Lightning to just 13 points and had a 9 point buffer going into the 4th. The suns great foul shooting sealed the game. Kurt Riddell came off the bench and to score 8 pts in the 4th.

Josh Harrigan and Craig Hanlon contributed quality minutes causing some great stops on defence. MVP honours went to Mitch Cole who top scored with 29.

Over confidence from their previous win perhaps deterred the Suns from performing at the best when they were challenged the next day by Power Basketball on the Central Coast.

Power controlled the tempo but with the Suns offence clinking, Murphy directed the way with 10 pts.

Poor communication in defence and an unstoppable guard, kept the Power in the game. The Suns had to regroup, go inside and control the game from the paint.

The suns went on to seal the victory by their good free throw shooting and making smart decisions in the fourth.

Good ball movement from the sun's guards found easy shots inside for Murphy and Cole. Ben Holder contributed through out the game playing solid defence and grabbing some great offensive rebounds.

MVP honours went to Sean Murphy who top scored with 34.

"This game was seen as a learning curve as a lot of silly mistakes were made through out the game. " Overall Coach Miller was pleased with the results taking 2 wins to start the
season.
