Young Lions' Improvement

Cairns Lions under 18 coach Eddie Skiba expects several of his players to put themselves into representative calculations at the AFL Queensland Country Championships in Rockhampton on Saturday.

The Lions had their final warm-up game against AFL Cairns team South Cairns on Saturday, going down to the understrength Cutters 12.8 (30) to 9.11 (65) at Holloways Beach.

Trailing by nine at the major break, the Lions traded goals with the Cutters in the final two quaters but could not find the lead before fulltime.

While his side lost, Skiba said the Lions performed better then what they did beating Townsville the week before.

When you play against the men, the thing you're looking at is the physicality and if they're worried about the bigger bodies and the collisions'. he said.

'They wernt and that was really pleasing

The Lions play Central Queensland Country and Southern Queensland Country at the country champtionships, which double as a selection trail for the Queensland Country Kookaburras.
