The eight-year reign of one of the Far North's most passionate sporting administrators will come to an end tonight.
AFL Cairns President Russell Beer will step doen from the position as the league's president tonight and will hand the reigns to managing director Gary Young.
"I was elected eight years ago tomorrow and I said at the time I wouldn't do 10 years like (former President) Jeff Hopgood and with the two-year terms I would make a liar of myself if I didn't stand down now," Beer said yesterday.
