Cairns AFL is working hard to secure the city's first AFL home-and-away match with league newcomers Gold Coast early next year.
Cazalys Stadium is a contender to host at least one Gold Coast home game because the team's home, at Carrara Stadium, is being redeveloped and is not expected to be finished before May 2011.
Cairns' 15,000-capacity ground has hosted AFL pre-season games in the past, attracting as many as 5000 spectators to games.
AFL marketing and commercial operations chief Gillon McLachlan told afl.com.au there were "a number of options", including Cairns, being considered as venues for the Gold Coast’s first home games.
