That loud bang heard echoing around AFL Cairns footy grounds on Saturday was a warning shot fired by ladder leader Port Douglas.
After finishing well out of finals contention last year, the Crocs revealed their 2010 title credentials with a 29.12 (186) to 5.7 (37) thrashing of top-four hope Manunda Hawks.
The Crocs were devastating early on their home ground, kicking 17 goals before halftime and limiting the Hawks to just one major in the same period.
Forward Matt Shaw (seven goals) and Paul Minchington (six) kept the scoreboard attendants busy but Crocs coach Andy Viola was just as impressed with his defenders.
"We’ve got a really good back six," Viola said.
"I believe you have to stabilise the backline first and have guys who know each other inside and out, who run off each other and can create.
