The best resonse to a heavy loss is a god win and it was hard to ignore what Cairns Saints had to say att Griffith Park on Saturday.
The AFL Cairns premiers bounced back from their thrashing by Port Douglas the week before to beat a young Manunda Hawks outfit 19.16 (130) to 13.9 (87).
The victory was especially satisfying considering Saints lost to Hawks by 12 points in round one at Cazalys.
Saints player-coach James Coatsworth said his team had plenty of motivation to succeed.
"We were pretty disappointed with our game last week," he said.
"We had a few changes this week. Matt Walsh was out and we needed someone to stand up and kick goals.
"It was pleasing to get the four points.
"They beat us in round one but it’s different conditions to back then and we’ve improved."
Saints were not quite their ruthless self but still boasted enough class and experience to leave no doubt as to who was the better side.
