North Cairns have moved within sight of an AFL Cairns top-four spot after recording an important 53-point victory over Cairns City Cobras at Holloways Beach on Saturday.
Still hurting from their six-point loss to Cobras in Round 2, the Tigers inflicted their own pain by recovering from a 20-point deficit at halftime to win 18.18 (126) to 11.7 (73).
The victory moved the Tigers into fifth on the ladder, one win behind the fourth-placed Manunda Hawks.
Tigers coach Wes Lord, who finished the game with three goals, said his players showed character to fight their way back into the contest.
"We did our usual thing where we come out of the blocks real slow but I knew the boys had it in them to come back," he said. "The difference was our commitment and passion and we touched on that at halftime.
"I asked for a bit more commitment, the boys responded and we stuck to our game plan a lot better in the second half.
