Centrals Trinity Beach made sure the September prospects of Cairns City Cobras were as gloomy as the weather on Saturday by convincingly beating the home side at Holloways Beach.
The Bulldogs cruised to a 17.11 (133) to 9.10 (64) victory, cementing second spot on the AFL Cairns ladder and leaving Cobras an almost irretrievable 12 points adrift of the top four.
Under grey skies more associated with winter football in the southern states, a committed Cobras kept pace with the Bulldogs in the first quarter.
Darwin recruit Harold Calma provided a cheeky presence in the front third for Cobras, while joint coach Aaron Nesbitt found plenty of ball to distribute in the centre of the park.
But Cobras found controlling the Sherrin difficult when the rain arrived in the second quarter.
Dropped marks and other skill errors blighted their game for the rest of the match, restricting them to four goals after the first term.
The Bulldogs had no such trouble and at times transitioned the ball like it was a Tuesday evening training run.
