Prized Gold Coast recruit Karmichael Hunt will be a spectator in the stands when his side play the Bendigo Bombers in their VFL match at Cazalys on Saturday.
Gold Coast coach Guy McKenna yesterday confirmed the former Broncos fullback would be given a break from playing duties after making three appearances for his new club.
While Hunt will be absent from the field, Far North signings Charlie Dixon and Rex Liddy remain in selection contention despite neither playing in the Gold Coast’s 6.12 (48) to 3.1 (19) loss to North Ballarat on Saturday.
McKenna said both Dixon and Hunt have a future in football if they continued to work hard.
"Charlie’s a big lump of a lad. He’s very imposing and has been impressive in both competitions he’s played for us," he said.
"I think he’s destined to play in the AFL.
"How far he goes is all in Charlie’s hands. The only thing that can hold back Charlie is Charlie.
"Rex is one of our latest recruits. He’s still got a lot of things to work on but he’s really starting to develop.
"I think this (game) is a step in building the foundation for the relationship between the Gold Coast and Cairns.
"Cairns is in the Gold Coast Academy zone and we want to do as much as we can up there."
