After the perfect result in from a strong crowd on a perfect day for football, Gold Coast chief executive Travis Auld believes his club has every reason to play another game at Cazalys.
AFL Cairns wants to build a strong relationship with the Gold Coast and Auld thought Saturday’s VFL match was a promising start to their union.
“As a footy club, we need to help build a strong crowd here and support here. It’s not just a one-year thing for us,” Auld said.
“Our long-term pitch has always been to try and get a game up here.
“I think we ticked all the boxes in terms of what we could achieve here today.
“It was fantastic the support we had from AFL Cairns, Gary Young and his team.
“We’ve got a lot of support locally and hopefully this is the start of a long term relationship.”
While there were some Essendon/Bendigo Bombers fans in the crowd, it was clear the majority of the support was behind the Gold Coast from the roar that erupted when they won the game with the final kick of the match.
“It was amazing in the second half of the game the amount of support we had,” Auld said.
“We were treated like the home team.”
