Give him six years and a growth spurt and Jack Bowes might be another Cairns footballer to crack the ranks of the AFL.
The 12-year-old is heading in the right direction after winning his first Queensland jumper at the state schoolboy titles in Cairns last month.
Bowes leaves for the national titles in Perth this week and is excited by the opportunity to show his talents.
"I can’t wait. Last year I made the Queensland Country side and sort of worked on stuff to improve my game to get to Queensland," Bowes said.
"The coaches have told me I’ll be playing on-ball and half-forward flank, which is pretty good."
Bowes is looking forward to testing his skills against players from other states but knows it will be a step up from the level of football he is used to.
