The door to the AFL Cairns finals series has been left slightly ajar for North Cairns and coach Wes Lord hopes his players accept the invitation to kick it in.
The Tigers sit fifth on the ladder, two wins behind Centrals Trinity Beach and the Manunda Hawks, with two rounds of the regular season left.
Hawks have a tough encounter against undefeated ladder leaders Port Douglas at Cazalys tomorrow and short of pulling off an upset will stay on 48 competition points.
Tantalisingly, the Tigers play the Hawks in the final round but to have any chance of pinching their final’s spot they must first defeat Cairns Saints at Griffiths Park tomorrow.
Unfortunately, beating the reigning premiers falls under the "easier said than done" category of assignments.
The Saints are nearing full strength ahead of September and have only lost one of their past five games.
But considering the Tigers beat Saints by 23 points in their last encounter, Lord hopes the chance to play finals football motivates his team to replicate the result.
