September is meant to be a time of sleepless nights and intense pressure, but Centrals Trinity Beach coach Mick Seymour says his players are relaxed ahead of tomorrow's preliminary final against Port Douglas at Cazalys.
It no doubt has something to do with his team being underdogs for a game many did not expect them to qualify for in the first place.
The Bulldogs have not beaten tomorrow’s opponents all season, losing their three encounters by an average of 92 points, but Seymour expects the Crocs to be feeling all the pressure.
After winning the minor premiership undefeated, the Crocs lost their first game of the year last week to the Cairns Saints, who qualified for the grand final.
Another defeat will see the Crocs make an embarrassing exit from the finals, and Seymour believes that will be playing on their minds.
"All the pressure is on Port Douglas. We’ve got nothing to lose," Seymour said.
"Port Douglas made it pretty clear early on they were out to win the premiership with their recruitment and the coin they spent.
"We don’t have any such pressure. We’ve already exceeded our expectations."
The Bulldogs picked the perfect time to snap a five-game losing streak when they knocked the Manunda Hawks out of finals contention with a gritty 22-point victory last week.
After the game, Seymour and his players settled in to find out who their opponents would be and were not too surprised it ended up being the Crocs.
