FIVE Cairns products will move to Canberra's Belconnen Magpies next season to take part in the new North East Australian Football League.
South Cairns captain Cameron Campbell, teammate Daniel Lock, Saints premiership player Matt Hammond and under-17 talents Harry Hutchison and Alex Carter are all heading to the nation’s capital to try their luck.
For Campbell, 25, it’s an opportunity he never really thought he’d get.
"It really is a bit of a surprise to be making the move," he said.
"I wouldn’t have moved just to play in the State League in Brisbane, but when they created this league an opportunity was suddenly created at the next level.
"They’ve got full-time staff and a great gym and training facilities; the whole operation is pretty professional."
Campbell has played his entire career in Cairns and is keen to expand his horizons.
And he will get his chance, likely to line up against high-profile GWS Giants’ rugby league recruit Israel Folau.
