Mission Beach locals might have been surprised to find a team of Aussie Rules footballers in their front yard over the weekend but rather than being a nuisance they'd all come to help.
North Cairns Tigers Football and Netball Club players trekked down the Bruce Highway on Saturday to help locals still cleaning up debris from Cyclone Yasi.
15 players in all participated, helping clear driveways, cut down trees and lug huge fallen logs out of elderly people's front yards.
Tigers Coach, Kane Richter, said it was important to help out after such a huge disaster.
"A big focus of ours is to get out and do something for the community and build relationships on the way. So we went down there and basically helped out wherever we could," he said.
"I've never actually done anything like that before, in terms of helping out after a big natural disaster and I know all the boys got something out of it. We got in touch with the [Mission Beach] Rotary club and we tagged on with them.
"It was quite enjoyable actually in the end. Being able to help people, especially elderly people that had sore backs and weren't able to do the work was good value."
