Footy fans are encouraged to get in early with tickets for the Richmond versus Gold Coast clash in Cairns on July 16 go on sale now. The game, which is the first competition-round AFL fixture to be played in Cairns, is expected to draw a capacity crowd of 11,000 to a redeveloped Cazalys.
While the match is technically a Richmond home game, the Suns should experience a high level of support with Far Northern juniors Jarrod Harbrow (Cairns), Charlie Dixon (Cairns), Rex Liddy (Hope Vale) and Lewis Moss (Port Douglas) in their 2011 roster. Gold Coast Suns captain Gary Ablett hopes the majority of the crowd will be on their side. “A few of our team come from Far North Queensland and they’re excited about coming home to Cairns to play AFL football in front of family and friends. It will be great to see a big crowd there,” he said.
