Another influx of Northern Territorians is set to bolster the Port Douglas Crocs ahead of their clash with Cairns City Lions tomorrow.
Seven players from premiership-winning Northern Territory side Wanderers have now joined the Crocs, but coach Andy Viola is pragmatic about how long it will take the side to adjust their style of play.
“We’re in no hurry to play our best football just yet,” he said. “It might take a while to fine tune different structures and game plans.”
Former Richmond AFL player Relton Roberts and the nephew of Essendon premiership-winning midfielder Michael Long, Tommy, are just two big names to join the Crocs. Brenton Bading, who booted six goals last round, is another showing plenty of promise.
“It’s great to have these young lads from Wanderers,” Viola said. “We’ve always had a good working relationship with Wanderers. I played five seasons there, including a premiership, and the president is one of my best mates.”
Viola pointed out the locals still played a crucial role in the team, with captain Evan Hocking and Sam Bock in scintillating form in the early stages of the season. The Crocs sit in fifth spot on the ladder, with just percentage keeping them out of the top three.
