AFL Cairns Women’s League representative coach Aaron McKinnon might possess psychic ability after his team did exactly what he predicted they would do at the state championships. McKinnon’s girls dominated their metropolitan rivals to win their first state title in nine years, with 17 of his 21 players earning representative jerseys.
Cairns had 12 players make the Queensland open women’s side, while five were selected in the under-18 team. McKinnon said it was a tremendous effort from his players.
“They hadn’t won a state title for nine years but they believed in themselves, believed in me and put it all together in two days,” he said.
