Teenager Trent McKenzie's performance at Cazalys Stadium on Saturday has earned him an AFL Rising Star nomination. It makes the 19-year-old the fourth Gold Coast player to earn the recognition in the club’s debut season.
Playing on the wing and in the midfield, McKenzie gathered 21 possessions and eight marks as the Suns claimed their third win of the season, beating Richmond in the Cairns clash by 15 points.
He follows teammates Brandon Matera, Zac Smith and David Swallow as a Rising Star nominee.
"Trent is a beauty. He has the power, speed and now is demonstrating a work rate to compete consistently at an AFL level," Suns coach Guy McKenna said yesterday.
