North Cairns' charge through the AFL Cairns Women's League continued unabated on Saturday when they posted their biggest win of the season at Trinity Beach. The wrecking ball was aimed and fired through the Trinity Beach Bulldogs with Norths landing an 80-point victory, 14.9 (93) to 2.1 (13).
Maddison Peeters played the focal role and finished the game with six goals in what coach Jo Butland described as the team’s standout performance. The 17-year-old Woree High graduate spent most of the match at centre half forward and could not be contained by the Bulldogs’ defence.
"She was the leading goal kicker for the club going into the weekend, and she just had a sensational game, but she also got good delivery," Butland said. "Tarin (Moke) played well too. She’s a bit of a goal sneak, that’s the best way to describe her and her ability to run off players was really good yesterday. Yesterday’s game was probably our biggest win all season which was sort of surprising because we had three or four key players away."
Adding to Peeters’ haul, Moke booted three and Deb Bond got two. Butland said other strong contributors were Alisha Adams, who was in just her second game for the team, and Maddie Struwe, who continues to improve in every game in her first season of AFL.
Norths have begun to take shape as an unstoppable force in the competition, following on from last week’s huge win against grand finalists, the Manunda Hawks.
