A resurgent Centrals Trinity Beach has Manunda Hawks coach Fiona Sharp on high alert ahead of the clubs’ AFL Cairns Women’s League clash at Holloways Beach today. Even though the Hawks are guaranteed to finish the competition rounds in second spot, Sharp has branded the match against the third-placed Bulldogs a real “danger game”.
Sixteen competition points separate the teams on the ladder, but Sharp insists the difference in playing talent isn’t as wide. The Bulldogs pushed reigning premiers North Cairns last week with a performance that left Sharp highly impressed.
“They (the Bulldogs) have had a shocking run with injuries, but they are starting to get their players back and were really good against Norths,” she said. “They were leading at halftime in that game, so their confidence will be up for us. They’re a very attacking team and always kick a lot of goals, even when they lose, and it doesn’t bother them if it’s wet or dry. This is going to be one of our hardest games.”
