North Cairns Tigers secured an undefeated regular season with a win over the Centrals Trinity Beach Bulldogs on Saturday in the AFL Cairns women’s competition. But the Tigers captain-coach Jo Butland knows better than to start celebrating.
“An undefeated season means nothing if we don’t win next week or the week after,” she said. “We’re focused on winning flags, so until that happens, we won’t be celebrating.”
The Tigers’ 6.8 (44)-4.1 (25) win over the Bulldogs was as good as any this season, Butland said.
“They put a lot of pressure on us but it was good to see our defence responded well.”
The Tigers are now only two wins away from a near-perfect season. The only minor blemish was a draw against South Cairns Cutters. North Cairns face second-placed Manunda Hawks at Watson’s Oval next week.
