Kristen Lawless is confident her Centrals Trinity Beach Bulldogs can beat the undefeated North Cairns Tigers in a grand final. But first they must beat Manunda Hawks in the AFL Cairns women’s grand final qualifier at Crathern Park today.
That has proven a difficult task for the Bulldogs since their win over the Hawks in round one. After that loss the Hawks bounced back and beat the Bulldogs on each of their remaining encounters in the regular season.
“They’ve really had the edge over us so it’s going to be difficult,” Lawless said. “But if we can get past them, I think we’re a good chance against the Tigers because we can be pretty unpredictable.”
Part of that unpredictability comes from the fact the Bulldogs do not know their team from week to week. Injuries and player unavailability have been cruel to the team. They had to forfeit one game earlier in the season because of injuries.
But last weekend, Bulldogs were on the other end of a forfeit, when South Cairns Cutters could not get enough numbers for its semi-final.
