For Jason Salecich, winning Club of the Year must be the luck of the Irish. The long-time Cazalys general manager was bursting with excitement last night. Cazalys took out the honour at the International Gaming Technology and Clubs Queensland Awards for Excellence.
The popular sports club also scored Best Football Club and Best Club Far North Queensland at the awards, with Mr Salecich still to let that winning feeling sink in.
"We were delighted but a bit shocked at first," he said. "We were very happy to win the other minor awards, but to win Club of the Year was quite surreal really, it’s just a fantastic effort."
Mr Salecich said Cazalys needed to match strict criteria set by Clubs Queensland to be considered for Club of the Year, including visits by undercover patrons, analysis of financial data, level of community contributions and staff evaluations.
"They really look across your business to come to that decision, so it’s an equal playing field," he said.
